Winston’s Wish Child Bereavement Training - Middle / Secondary Schools and Colleges

Event/course Code SCH/22/009
Event/course type Network, forums, briefings, meetings and conferences
Event Description On average, 1 in every 29 children will be bereaved of a parent or sibling. That’s one in every class. Yet many professionals receive no bereavement training and are unsure how to support grieving children and young people in their care. This collaboration between Winston’s Wish and Worcestershire Public Health will provide an overview of some of the issues around childhood bereavement. We aim to build your skills and confidence in supporting children and young people.

COVID-19 has resulted in many children and young people experiencing unexpected bereavement. In addition, children and young people have been disproportionately impacted by COVID-19.

Attendees will have an understanding of:
• The impact of bereavement on children and young people (including traumatic bereavement)
• Developmental variations of grief - how the age and stage of a child’s development can affect the way in which they grieve
• The needs of bereaved children
• What do I say? How do I help?: Practical ideas and activities for supporting children with their grief

The training will focus on either first/primary ages or middle/secondary/college ages.

Max 2 place per school – numbers will be monitored, and any additional bookings made will be moved to the waiting list
