Event Description Young children are expected to go through many major transitions before the age of 5 that will inevitably have an effect on their lives in many ways. We must do everything we can to help these transitions to be as smooth and meaningful as we can. As we know each child is unique and therefore transitions for children from one setting or class to another will not necessarily look the same. Each child comes with a slightly different story attached to them with chapters that need careful consideration.

Time needs to be put aside before each transition period to ensure that when the moment comes, as the child strides towards the next step, that everything is ready for them.

This course is designed for both nursery/pre-school and Reception practitioners as they are at the pivotal point of these transitions. It will be a great opportunity for everyone to be an essential part of the discussions, messages and sharing of ideas.

Cost: £40 + VAT per person
Training Objectives During the morning we will look at: -

• what makes an effective and successful transition for our young children,
• ways to inform families, gain information from them about their child, and help them feel confident about their child starting school
• how to gather essential information about children who have a joint placement and be able to put in place adequate provision to meet their needs
• being School Ready and sharing examples of good practice
• developing a transition timeline
• helping children adjust to change
Learning Outcomes The afternoon will be set up as ‘Pop in workshops’ where you will be able to sample from a smorgasbord of opportunities delivered by our specialist inclusion and SEND teams.

Teams: - SEN Support services, CCN and Autism, PD, Hearing Impaired and Visual Impaired

The Early Years Inclusion team have created transition templates in liaison with relevant services for children presenting with specific needs. The templates can be used as a menu of activities for parents, early years settings and reception classes to agree and put in place to support children’s smooth transition into their new education environments.

These workshops will take practitioners through the templates with guidance on how to utilise them for the children’s move into Reception in September. They include transition templates on specific areas of need:
Speech, Language and Communication and Personal, Social and Emotional Needs, as well as ones from the teams mentioned above.
