Event Description A 90-minute INSET opportunity which covers:
Signalong is an alternative and augmentative keyword signing communication method used by those individuals with a speech, language and communication need. Signalong uses a Total Communication Approach to teach language and literacy skills, through a combination of speech, signs and descriptions at the appropriate level.
Delegates will cover a brief history, philosophy and methodology of Signalong before teaching approximately 15 key words used frequently with learners with young people with complex communication needs and autism, but delegates will learn the necessary skills to read and produce any sign in our range of over 70 manuals. Delegates will be engaged in activities to put the vocabulary into context i.e. sentence practice, plays, games etc.

Each delegate will:
• Have an understanding of the theory and methodology of Signalong.
• Understand how Signalong fits within an inclusive and Total Communication approach.
• Use a range of Signalong signs with pupils with autism.
• Support others in their work environment to use Signalong.
