Story Massage combines the benefits of agreed positive touch through the use of story, rhyme or song. The programme contains ten simple massage strokes that are easy to learn and can be used in different ways throughout different Story Massage sessions. It supports learning and communication through play and positive touch.
During the introduction session, delegates will explore the ten different strokes which are used on anybody area that is appropriate for the child, e.g. shoulders, back, arms, head, face, legs, hands and feet.
A 90-minute INSET opportunity which covers:
• How story massage can benefit children and young people with autism
• The 10 different strokes
• Adapting stories (etc) to support individual pupils’ needs
On completion of the course, delegates will:
• Have an understanding of the theory and methodology of Story Massage
• Become familiar with the 10 strokes and how to use these with pupils
• Explore stories / rhymes / social stories etc using Story Massage strokes
• Be signposted to Story Massage website for further information
