For Worcester Schools Early Years

Please accept an invitation to join this free Worcestershire schools early years briefing session. The briefing sessions this year have been arranged in districts to keep numbers manageable in this virtual world and hopefully to be able to address any local issues if necessary.

This briefing will share any local and national EYFS updates and new documentation as well as some key dates in the early years world. We will also explore some top tips on developing your EYFS Recovery plan and some of the aspects contained within, around your priorities.

Anxiety and Emotionally Based School Avoidance: Meeting the Needs of Anxious Pupils in our Schools training is being delivered virtually.

Specifically for those working with Secondary School aged children

The training is free due to Worcestershire Children First securing a NHS funding grant

Places are limited to three per school, per course. If you wish to book extra these will added to the waiting list.
Course aims
• Increase our awareness and understanding of anxiety including gaining information from individual pupils about their unique experiences
• Develop understanding of evidence based approaches which schools can use to help children to reduce pupil anxiety
• To understand Emotionally Based School Avoidance (EBSA) including prevention and re-integration

Aims and Objectives:
• The Youth MHFA two-day course qualifies you as a Youth Mental Health First Aider. This aims to provide you with
• An in depth understanding of young people’s mental health and factors that affect wellbeing
• Practical skills to spot the triggers and signs of mental health issues
* Confidence to reassure and support a young person in distress
• Enhanced interpersonal skills such as non-judgmental listening
• Knowledge to help a young person recover their health by guiding them to further support – whether that’s through self-help sites, their place of learning, the NHS, or a mix – engaging with parents, carers and external agencies where appropriate
• The ability to support a young person with a long-term mental health issue or disability to thrive
• Tools to look after your own mental wellbeing

About this event
This course is designed as a ‘train the trainer’ course for SENCos and Inclusion Leaders.

It is intended that following this session, SENCos will disseminate this information to their wider school staff.

Aims and objectives:
• To ensure all staff in educational settings and wider teams working with schools develop a secure understanding of the Graduated Response, with the child and family at the centre
• To emphasise the role of class/subject teachers as teachers of all pupils, including those with special educational needs and/or disabilities
• To better understand each aspect of the Assess-Plan-Do-Review cycle and roles and responsibilities within this process
• To explore effective ways of involving parents/carers and children and young people throughout the support process.

• Increase awareness of the insidious nature of domestic abuse and the invisibility of coercion and control.

• Highlight the prevalence and statistics of domestic abuse

• Increase confidence to be professionally curious and to ask about domestic abuse in a way that makes it easier and safer for people to disclose.

• Increase understanding of victims’ responses to domestic abuse including why they may stay in an abusive relationship

• Explore the links between pregnancy and domestic abuse and the impacts on children both pre-birth and at various stages of development

• Consider the professional responsibility for positively impacting the resilience of children

• Explore the additional impacts on people from marginalised groups including adults with support and care needs, older people and LGBT and minority communities

• Highlight the need for a multi-agency approach and roles of agencies in relation to risk identification and management

• Increase knowledge of how to refer to relevant services when appropriate, including referral to local and national specialist services for victims and perpetrators.
